Made in Japan c1984 and in a very good condition inside and out.
Although Yamaha have been making pianos since 1917 they didn’t start to export them in any great numbers for about 50 years. When Yamaha started sending their M1 uprights over to Europe in the late 1960s & early 1970s it was a shock to the European makers. Yamahas build quality, design and craftsmanship was much better than anyone expected at the price points the Yamahas were selling for and the rest of the worlds manufacturers had to seriously up their game or go under.
Unfortunately most went under and within 10-15 years Yamaha had become a dominant force around the world and by the time these M5J models came out in the early 1980s with their sibling the M1J, Yamaha were upping their game again and putting a final nail in the coffin of many of the old English, French and German factories.
