RICHARD REASON PIANOS
It is with great sadness that I have had to close the piano shop, the lease was at an end and renewing the lease was not a viable option for us.
We are continuing to expand our tuning round and would love to hear from you if you need a piano tuning, repair or just want to ask a question or two about your piano, we will be delighted talk, but unfortunately I wont be in the lovely old workshop in Tilehouse Street anymore.

44 YEARS OF EXPERTISE
We have over 44 years experience in piano tuning and the restoration or repair of pianos. Working on pianos of all ages, shapes and sizes – This experience will not disappear just because we have left the old workshops and we will be more than willing to share our accumulated knowledge should you be looking for advice about your piano or a potential you were thinking of acquiring.

Upcycle OLD pianos
We used to see many old pianos that were no longer viable as practical, reliable musical instruments but were handsome and beautiful pieces of furniture. They were at the end of their lives in their original form and the cost of a proper restoration would be prohibitive but there are many examples of fabulous projects where a piano has been converted into something new, giving it a whole new life and future.
Please bear this in mind when looking at older pianos on sites like eBay, freecycle, Facebook Market Place. Pianos do not improve with age, they are complicated machines made predominantly out of wood, felt and leather and most of the pre 1970s examples are held together with animal glues that grow weaker as they age. My old boss Richard Reason used to say that the prettier the piano the worse the instrument, there are exceptions of course, but they are few and far between.
Please seek advise from an independent tuner before investing in an old piano, even if it is ‘free ‘ because by the time you have invested in transporting it and tuning it you will be several hundred pounds out of pocket and no tuner wants to be the person telling you that you have wasted your money.
